چکیده

A coupled system of wind, wind wave, and coastal circulation models has been implemented for southern Louisiana and Mississippi to simulate riverine flows, tides, wind waves, and hurricane storm surge in the region. The system combines the NOAA Hurricane Research Division Wind Analysis System (H*WIND) and the Interactive Objective Kinematic Analysis (IOKA) kinematic wind analyses, the Wave Model (WAM) offshore and SteadyState Irregular Wave (STWAVE) nearshore wind wave models, and the Advanced Circulation (ADCIRC) basin to channel-scale unstructured grid circulation model. The system emphasizes a high-resolution (down to 50 m) representation of the geometry, bathymetry, and topography; nonlinear coupling of all processes including wind wave radiation stress-induced set up; and objective specification of frictional parameters based on land-cover databases and commonly used parameters. Riverine flows and tides are validated for no storm conditions, while winds, wind waves, hydrographs, and high water marks are validated for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

مدل سازی هیدرودینامیکی جنوب خلیج فارس با استفاده از مدلDelft3D-FLOW

The goal of this study was to simulate the hydrodynamics induced by con-current wind and tide loading in the southern part of the Persian Gulf. The model was calibrated with a 28 day lunar cycle, in which both neap and spring tide were modeled. The model boundaries were forced using tidal water levels obtained from the United Hydrographic Tide Tables. Wind data extracted from PERGOS database wa...

Multi-Output Artificial Neural Network for Storm Surge Prediction in North Carolina

During hurricane seasons, emergency managers and other decision makers need accurate and ‘on-time’ information on potential storm surge impacts. Fully dynamical computer models, such as the ADCIRC tide, storm surge, and wind-wave model take several hours to complete a forecast when configured at high spatial resolution. Additionally, statically meaningful ensembles of high-resolution models (ne...

Storm Surge Modeling in Large Estuaries: Sensitivity Analyses to Parameters and Physical Processes in the Chesapeake Bay

Large estuaries are especially vulnerable to coastal flooding due to the potential of combined storm surges and riverine flows. Numerical models can support flood prevention and planning for coastal communities. However, while recent advancements in the development of numerical models for storm surge prediction have led to robust and accurate models; an increasing number of parameters and physi...

Surface trajectories of oil transport along the Northern Coastline of the Gulf of Mexico

After the destruction of the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform during the spring of 2010, the northern Gulf of Mexico was threatened by an oil spill from the Macondo well. Emergency responders were concerned about oil transport in the nearshore, where it threatened immediately the fishing waters and coastline from Louisiana to Florida. In this region, oil movement was influenced by a continen...

Research of the Influential Factors on the Simulation of Storm Surge in the Bohai Sea

A hindcast of typical extratropical storm surge occurring in the Bohai Sea in Oct. 2003 is performed using a three-dimensional storm surge model system based on Finite-Volume Coastal Ocean Model (FVCOM). The surface winds are obtained from the WRF data set. Some preliminary sensitivity studies of the influential factors affecting the storm surge simulation in the Bohai Sea are studied with the ...
